Undergraduate

Business Analytics Major

Business Analytics centers on using data to drive strategic and operational decisions. Students develop skills in data management, statistical analysis, modeling, and visualization, with an emphasis on translating insights into business action.

This major prepares students for data-focused roles in analytics, consulting, operations, and strategy, and provides a strong foundation for advanced study in analytics and information systems.

To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce with a major in Business Analytics, students must complete a minimum of 175 quarter-units of credit (of which at least 60 must be in upper-division courses) and satisfy the requirements of the Undergraduate Core Curriculum, the Leavey School of Business Curriculum, and the departmental major. Additionally, students must attain a minimum grade point average of 2.0 for all courses completed at Â鶹ŮÀÉ and for all courses in the Business Analytics major.

Management Information Systems Major

Management Information Systems (MIS) focuses on how organizations use technology, data, and systems to support strategy, operations, and innovation. Students learn to bridge technical systems and business needs through analysis, design, and implementation.

The MIS major prepares students for roles in systems analysis, technology consulting, product management, and digital transformation across a wide range of industries.

To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce with a major in Management Information Systems, students must complete a minimum of 175 quarter-units of credit (of which at least 60 must be in upper-division courses) and satisfy the requirements of the Undergraduate Core Curriculum, the Leavey School of Business Curriculum, and the departmental major. Accounting & Information Systems Major

The Accounting and Information Systems major integrates financial expertise with information systems and data-driven analysis. Students develop the ability to design, evaluate, and manage systems that support accounting functions, internal controls, and strategic business decisions.

This interdisciplinary major prepares students for careers at the intersection of accounting, technology, and analytics, including roles in audit, consulting, systems implementation, and data-enabled finance functions.

To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce with a major in Accounting & Information Systems Major, students must complete a minimum of 175 quarter-units of credit (of which at least 60 must be in upper-division courses) and satisfy the requirements of the Undergraduate Core Curriculum, the Leavey School of Business Curriculum, and the departmental major. Business Analytics Minor

The Business Analytics minor equips students with the skills to analyze data and support informed business decision-making. Students learn how to apply statistics, data management, and analytical tools to interpret complex information and generate insights that improve organizational performance.

Note: A course cannot be double-dipped in multiple programs within the department. For example, if OMIS 113 is taken as an elective for BA minor, it cannot count towards MIS major.

* Non-business students minoring in MIS must also complete the following requirements:

  • One course in mathematics chosen from MATH 11 or 30
  • One course in statistics and data analysis chosen from OMIS 40, MATH 8, MATH 122, PSYC 40, or COMM 110
  • Three courses in business chosen from BUSN 70, MGMT 160, MKTG 181, FNCE 121, OMIS 108, or OMIS 108E

* Graduates from December (Fall) 2024 and onward cannot double-dip OMIS elective classes for their MIS/AIS major, MIS minor, or BA minor.

Graduate

The Department of Information Systems & Analytics supports all graduate programs at the Leavey School of Business through foundational and advanced coursework in big data, business intelligence, and more. The department also offers the MS in Business Analytics and MS in Information Systems, providing specialized preparation for technology-driven careers, as well as a STEM-designated MBA concentration in Data Science and Business Analytics.
