For Lily Fang ’27, choosing Â鶹ŮÀÉ was both a practical and personal decision. “I chose SCU because it offers one of the top accounting programs in the country,” she says. “But beyond that, it provides a welcoming, supportive environment that encourages both academic and personal growth.” Originally from San Francisco, California, Lily remembers her first visit vividly: “My earliest memory is taking a campus tour after I was accepted. Walking through campus gave me a glimpse of the vibrant community I was so excited to join.”

As an Accounting and Information Systems major, Lily has found a program that perfectly aligns with her strengths and passions. “I chose this major because it combines my love for numbers with my interest in technology,” she explains. “The accounting side challenges me to think critically and logically, while the information systems component helps me understand how technology supports business operations. Together, they give me a well-rounded skill set that I can apply in many professional settings.”

Lily’s favorite class so far has been OMIS 41, a course that blends analytical work with hands-on problem-solving. “I’ve always enjoyed working with numbers and Excel,” she says. “My professor structured the class in a way that made the material both practical and engaging. It’s been one of those experiences where you can really see how what you’re learning applies directly to the real world.”

Outside the classroom, Lily has found community and connection through the Asian and Pacific Islander Student Union (APSU). “The Big-Little program has been especially meaningful to me,” she shares. “It helped me form strong connections with my bigs and littles, and it really created a sense of family on campus. Being part of APSU has given me a space where I feel supported and understood—it’s been one of the highlights of my SCU experience.”

Receiving the Fr. Coz Endowed Scholarship has had a profound impact on Lily’s college journey. “The scholarship has significantly eased the financial burden for me and my family,” she says. “It’s allowed me to focus more on my academics and personal development instead of worrying about working additional jobs to fund my education. I’m so grateful for that opportunity.”

Even as an undergraduate, Lily is already finding ways to “pay it forward.” She currently volunteers as an accounting tutor, helping fellow students navigate challenging coursework. “It’s rewarding to know that I can support others in their learning,” she says. “After graduation, I hope to continue giving back by serving as a mentor and contributing to scholarships like this one when I’m able.”

Looking ahead, Lily has clear professional goals. “I want to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and use my skills to assist individuals and families who face challenges with filing taxes,” she says. “Santa Clara has been instrumental in helping me prepare by providing a clear path toward CPA requirements and offering resources that will help me build a successful career.”

When asked what she would say to the donors who make the Fr. Coz Scholarship possible, Lily’s gratitude is immediate and heartfelt: “Thank you so much for investing in my education and future. Your support not only helps me achieve my goals but also inspires me to make a positive impact in my community. You’ve made a real difference in my life.”
