Since 2010, the Retail Management Institute has proudly facilitated student trips to New York City, the epicenter of the retail industry. In early January, a group of 20 students embarked on a transformative journey to the city, where they engaged with the retail sector in a way few educational experiences can offer. The highlight of the trip was the NRF (National Retail Federation) Student Program, a prestigious event that convenes future retail leaders, industry professionals, and educators. Over three days, students attended insightful sessions, networked with professionals, and gained a comprehensive understanding of the retail landscape. In addition, the trip included visits to leading retailers, offering students a well-rounded view of the industry from both strategic and operational perspectives.
In addition, the trip included:
- Store tours & talks.
- Alumni Evening events
- And many more engaging activities.
These experiences provided students with a well-rounded view of the industry from both strategic and operational perspectives.
How to Qualify for the New York City Trip
RMI is constantly evolving and acting on student feedback, and we are excited to introduce a new opportunity designed to support students in their professional growth. Students can now participate in engaging Career Readiness Workshops that help prepare them for internships and full-time career opportunities.
In addition, due to the overwhelming student interest and strong engagement in the New York City Trip, we are excited to introduce the RMI Points System to our community. This system encourages students to actively participate in workshops, events, and professional development opportunities throughout the year.
Students will have the opportunity to earn up to 17 points. To be considered eligible for the New York City Trip, students must earn a minimum of 8 points.
Disclaimer: Earning 8 points does not guarantee participation in the New York City Trip. Reaching the 8-point threshold places students into the pool of eligible candidates for selection.

Applications for the New York City 2027 will open in October
2026.
